Cristinel Mortici talks with ScienceWatch.com and answers a few questions about this month's Fast Breaking Paper paper in the field of Mathematics.

SW: Why do you think your paper is highly cited?

The paper is highly cited because it provides a new method for constructing asymptotic expansions and for improving some estimates of special functions, with many practical applications.

SW: Does it describe a new discovery, methodology, or synthesis of knowledge?

It describes a new methodology using elementary tools.

SW: Would you summarize the significance of your paper in layman's terms?

The significance consists in its large amount of applications.

SW: How did you become involved in this research, and how would you describe the particular challenges, setbacks, and successes that you've encountered along the way?

I have been involved in this research ever since I was a university student. I have some direct colleagues who are interested in the same subject.

SW: Where do you see your research leading in the future?

The research can be used in other areas such as physics, statistics, probabilities, etc.End
