Between 2004 and 2008, Clarivate Analytics indexed 90,167 papers that listed at least one author address in Switzerland. Of those papers, the highest percentage appeared in journals classified under the heading of space science. As the right-hand column shows, the citations-per-paper average for space-science research from
Switzerland surpassed the world average by 75% (12.51 citations per paper for Switzerland versus 7.14 for the world). In all but one of the other fields shown, the impact of Swiss research exceeded the world mark. The nation's performance was particularly strong in physics (88% above the world average), materials science
(77% above), geosciences (+71%) and chemistry (+54%)..
