Between 2003 and 2007,
Thomson
Reuters indexed 76,440 papers that listed at least one author
address in Brazil. Of those papers, the highest percentage appeared in
journals categorized under the heading of agricultural sciences, followed
by plant & animal sciences and microbiology. As the right-hand column
indicates, Brazil has yet to attain the world impact average in any of the
fields shown, although its score in mathematics for the five-year period
was at 89% of the world mark (or just 11% below: 1.28 cites per paper for
Brazil versus the world average of 1.44 citations). The nation's relative
impact was also comparatively strong in physics, ecology/environmental, and
geosciences.
