Between 2004 and 2008, Clarivate Analytics indexed 125,778 papers that listed at least one author address in Russia. Of those papers, the highest percentage appeared in journals categorized in the field of physics, followed by space science. As the right-hand column shows, the citations-per-paper (impact) average for physics papers from Russia during 2004-08 was 14% below the world impact figure for the field (3.57 citations per paper for Russia, versus a world figure of 4.16 cites). Although the impact of Russian research has yet to attain the world average in any of the fields shown, the country demonstrated comparatively strong performance in engineering, immunology, and pharmacology & toxicology.
