A Featured Journal from Essential Science IndicatorsSM

This month, ScienceWatch.com named the International Journal of Innovative Computing Information and Control (IJICIC) as a Rising Star among journals in the field of Computer Science. According to Essential Science Indicators from Thomson Reuters, the journal's current record in this field includes 417 papers cited a total of 556 times. Founded in 2004, IJICIC is published by ICIC International.

In the interview below, we talk with IJICIC's Editor-in-Chief, Professor Peng Shi, about the journal's history and citation record.

Did you expect IJICIC to become highly cited, or is this surprising to you?

The editorial team has been working extremely hard to ensure that the published papers in IJICIC are of high quality, representing the up-to-date advancements in the fields of advanced computing techniques, intelligent systems and information processing, and novel automatic control methodologies. We did expect IJICIC to be one of the top-tier journals in the word, as the papers published are highly cited, well recognized, and widely received and respected.

How would you account for the high citation rate of IJICIC?

"IJICIC serves as a cross-disciplinary journal which fills the gaps among computer, information, and control sciences."

The journal's success comes thanks to all the editorial board members' effort, all the reviewers' time and voluntary work, and the recognition to the IJICIC from people, who have submitted a great number of papers to us from which we could select papers of the highest possible standard.

Would you give us a brief history of the journal?

IJICIC was initiated in 2004, and the publication started in 2005 for four issues, then it was expanded to six issues in 2006-2007. Now, it publishes 12 issues per year, which includes some special issues per volume on some burning issues in the scientific communities.

What historical factors have contributed to the success of IJICIC?

IJICIC started in 2005, so its history is short, if not very short. If there are any historical factors contributing to the current status of IJICIC, probably it was lack of cross-disciplinary journals at that time, covering computer science, information science, and control science.

Have there been specific developments in the fields served by IJICIC that may have contributed?

IJICIC serves as a cross-disciplinary journal which fills the gaps among computer, information, and control sciences. In particular, the papers published in the journal have been highly cited for their originality and creativity.

What, in your view, is this journal’s main significance or contribution in the field of Computer Science?

The main contribution of IJICIC to the field of Computer Science is the publication of a number of highly cited papers in watermarking techniques, image-processing techniques, coding theory, and some novel computing algorithms, which provide some new directions in the above fields.

How do you see your field(s) evolving in the next few years?

There will be more developments on novel information processing, network security, data transformation, and hiding techniques.

What role do you see for your journal?

The long-term goal would be to make IJICIC become an internationally recognized leading journal in the fields of computing science, intelligent systems, and automation. To do this, we will further increase the quality of the journal by inviting world-leading experts in the above areas to publish their work in the journal, and only accept the best of the best submissions. Also, we will try to further reduce the submission-publication time period, and publish up-to-date breakthrough results as soon as we possibly can. In such a way, IJICIC can be further promoted worldwide, becoming a valuable reference for academia, scientists, engineers, and postgraduates.
