Special Topic: Oil Spills> Time Series Graphs
Published September 2010
On the one-year time series graph, there is a bump in papers in 2003, perhaps reflecting the first papers coming out about the 2002 Prestige spill. Another increase in paper volume is seen starting in 2007, peaking in 2008, and declining but still clear in 2009.

Looking at the topics of papers from these years, petroleum microbiology and in particular bioremediation, is quite prominent, but long-term follow-up studies of both the Valdez and Prestige spills are also present. Citations are higher for older papers, and citations per paper decline in a linear manner, as is generally expected.
The five-year time series graph of papers also shows the upswing of papers in the windows encompassing the years 2007-2009. Cites and cites per paper also show peaks during these periods, indicating that the research done during this time has been garnering considerable citation attention.

General & Additional Information
Currently, we provide graphical representation by papers, cites, and cites/paper in both one- and five-year intervals. The graphs instantly show anomalies and trends: did one year have a higher or lower output than average?
