Between 2004 and 2008, Clarivate indexed 276,104 papers that listed
at least one author address in France. Of those papers, the highest
percentage appeared in journals classified in the field of space science,
followed closely by mathematics. As the right-hand column shows, the
citations-per-paper average for space-science papers from France was 21%
above the world average for the field (8.62 cites per paper for France
versus 7.14 for the world). The impact of the nation's research was also
notably strong in plant & animal sciences (42% above the world
average), geosciences (31% above), and agricultural sciences (+31%). In
neuroscience & behavior, France's impact score happened to match the
world mark precisely: 8.04 cites per paper.
