Between 2004 and 2008, Clarivate indexed 78,809 papers that listed at
least one author address in Turkey. Of those papers, the highest percent
appeared in journals categorized under the heading of agricultural
sciences, followed closely by clinical medicine. As the right-hand column
shows, the impact (or average citations per paper) of agricultural-sciences
papers from Turkey was 10% below the world average (2.58 cites per paper
for Turkey, versus the world figure of 2.86). By contrast, Turkey-based
researchers bested the world mark by 2% in engineering—the only field
in which Turkey exceeded the world average. Nevertheless, the impact of
Turkish researchers was comparatively strong in computer science and
physics.
