Of those papers, the highest percentage appeared in journals indexed in the category of agricultural sciences, followed by space science and microbiology. As the right-hand column shows, the cites-per-paper score for Ireland-based authors exceeded the world average by 34% (4.04 cites per paper for Ireland versus 3.01 cites for the world). Ireland’s impact was also notably high in materials science (70% above the world average), physics (47% above), and computer science (+46%). In biology & biochemistry, Ireland’s impact happened to match the world mark precisely: 7.42 cites per paper.
