Between 2005 and 2009, Clarivate indexed 56,701 papers that listed at least one author address in Israel. Of those papers, the highest percentage appeared in journals categorized under the heading of mathematics, followed closely by psychiatry/psychology and computer science. As the right-hand column shows, the impact of research from Israel-based authors in mathematics was 5% above the world average in the field (1.59 cites per paper for Israel, versus 1.51 cites for the world). The nation’s relative-impact performance was particularly impressive in space science (66% above the world mark), materials science (62% above), and physics (+50%). In immunology, the impact of Israel-based researchers happened to match the world mark precisely (10.33 cites per paper).
