Between 2005 and 2009, Clarivate indexed 73,141 papers that listed at least one author address in Belgium. Of those papers, the highest percentage appeared in journals indexed under the heading of space science, followed by microbiology. As the right-hand column shows, the citations-per-paper average for space science papers featuring Belgium-based authors was 3% above the world average for the field (7.93 cites per paper for Belgium versus 7.69 cites for the world). Belgium’s relative-impact scores were also impressive in clinical medicine (64% above the world mark), agricultural sciences (61% above), and environment/ecology (+47%).
