Between 2005 and 2009, Clarivate indexed 30,398 papers that listed at least one author address in New Zealand. Of those papers, the highest percentage appeared in journals classified under the heading of environment/ecology, followed closely by agricultural sciences and plant & animal sciences. As the right-hand column shows, the citation impact of environment/ecology papers featuring New Zealand-based authors was 28% above the world impact score for the field during that five-year period (6.02 cites per paper for New Zealand, versus the world figure of 4.72). The nation’s relative-impact scores were also notably strong in geosciences (41% above the world mark), physics (21% above), and clinical medicine (+20%).
